Before I became a pastor, I actually worked in the healthcare industry. I was an administrator for a private pediatrics practice in Houston for four years while I studied at Dallas Theological Seminary. I was affectionately called the Office Monkey, since my job really had me doing everything and anything the practice needed.

One of the biggest things that I took away from my time with Blue Fish Pediatrics was just how well our doctors knew their patient. They knew each child’s story, what immunizations they’ve had, how they responded to allergies, and what kinds of illnesses they’ve struggled with. It gave them the ability to care for their patients and help them grow up healthy and strong.

Pastors, as spiritual physicians, need to do the same! And the way we do that is by asking questions of who you are and where you’re at spiritually, just like a doctor might ask you about your symptoms and medical history.
