To the end of the earth

After watching Jesus die for the sins of the world and then miraculously rise from the dead, the disciples were given a mission from Jesus:

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8)

God’s mission is that His salvation would extend to the end of the earth, as Spirit-empowered believers go and tell more and more people about our Savior, Jesus. Last month, six young adults from our church joined up with seven other North Americans, and about thirty Tanzanians to go live out this mission in one of the most remote places in the world. It definitely had an “end of the earth” kind of feel

For ten days we had front row seats to the amazing work of God in the lives of many Tanzanian people, not to mention our own lives. After coming home, many people were interested in how to be in prayer for the people of Tanzania.

Here are three ways you can pray for the mission of God in Tanzania:

1. NEW CHURCHES

Jesus saved over 440 people that week. There were 10 new churches planted from all of these new believers, with pastors who are now doing the hard work of discipleship. There will be many challenges for these churches, especially since many of them do not have Bibles, or do not know how to read.

>> Pray for God to strengthen these new churches, and encourage the pastors.

2. UNREACHED PEOPLE

There are still 24 unreached people groups in Tanzania. Almost 8 million people who have no church, no access to the gospel. One of those groups is the Zaramo people. This is where we are sending the Myer family next year, to bring the gospel to them and see churches planted and established there for the glory of God.

>> Pray for God to raise up more missionaries to bring the gospel to the unreached in Tanzania.

3. ORPHANS AND WIDOWS

Everywhere we went, it was common to meet children with no father, who stayed at home by themselves all day while their mom worked out in the field to provide. We had the great honor of leading them to Christ, and explaining to them that God is a loving Father who will never leave them.

>> Pray for God to protect the widows and orphans, and for churches to reach out to them and care for them with the love of Christ.

We serve an amazing God, with an unstoppable gospel. We know that He hears our prayers and responds according to His will. If you want to get more involved with missions through our church, check out our mission page, or contact James Myer.
